Gas Standard Flow
What is Gas Standard Flow?
Because gases are highly compressible, their volume changes drastically with temperature and pressure. To standardize gas measurement for custody transfer, sales, and flare sizing, engineers convert actual gas flow into "Standard" or "Normal" volumetric flow using the Ideal Gas Law.
Standard gas conversions are strictly utilized for:
- Compressor Sizing: Evaluating standard volumetric intake.
- Emissions & Flaring: Reporting greenhouse gas metrics and relief valve capacities.
- Custody Transfer: Selling natural gas via pipeline.
This specialized calculator allows engineers to convert mass (kg/hr) or actual flow into Standard Cubic Meters per Hour (Sm³/hr), Normal Cubic Meters (Nm³/hr), and Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD) by inputting the gas molecular weight, base temperature, and base pressure.
